The Kunming Changshui International Airport expansion project is one of the 102 major modernization airport construction projects in the National 14th Five-Year Plan. It is a major infrastructure project supporting Yunnan's construction as a radiation center for South and Southeast Asia, actively serving and integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the implementation of the strategy of building a strong civil aviation province.

Recently, with the assistance of SANY rotary drilling rigs, the hole-forming operations of the project are in full swing, making every effort to accelerate the project and safeguard subsequent pile foundation construction.

It is reported that the airport expansion project includes the construction of a new 730,000-square-meter T2 terminal and an apron with 131 aircraft stands; the construction of a new East No. 2 runway and West No. 2 runway; and the construction of a new 80,000-square-meter comprehensive transportation center and other supporting facilities. It is worth noting that in this hole-forming operation, the underlying structure is complex, involving backfill plus bluestone, cross-holes, half-face rock, etc., and the natural compressive strength of the rock in this project can reach up to 60-70 MPa. The complex geological conditions and high requirements pose considerable difficulty and challenges to the project construction.

Even when facing slightly weathered hard rock formations, it can achieve efficient and fearless drilling operations.

In addition to stable and efficient performance, the SANY rotary drilling rig also performs excellently in energy saving. The newly developed positive flow control system can reduce energy consumption by 8%, achieving even greater comprehensive fuel savings.

Upon completion, the Kunming Changshui International Airport expansion project will be the world's second large plateau multi-runway airport, becoming a modern comprehensive transportation hub in Southwest China that links domestic and international markets with two-way opening functions, and a strategic hub node of the global aviation network.
