Recently, the international standard ISO 37175:2024 "Smart community infrastructures — Operation and maintenance of utility tunnels" was officially released. Through research on utility tunnel-related engineering technical standards and engineering cases in Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, and other countries, and based on China's experience in the construction and operation and maintenance of urban underground utility tunnels, this standard draws on the national standards "Technical Code for Urban Utility Tunnel Engineering" (GB 50838), "Technical Standard for Monitoring and Alarm System Engineering of Urban Utility Tunnels" (GB/T 51274), "Technical Standard for Operation, Maintenance and Safety of Urban Underground Utility Tunnels" (GB 51354), "Specification for Operation Services of Urban Utility Tunnels" (GB/T 38550), and "Code for Special Facility Engineering Projects" (GB 55028). It is the first to propose standards and related specifications for full-life-cycle smart operation and maintenance of utility tunnels from the perspectives of operation, maintenance, and management, elaborates on the relationships among utility tunnel stakeholders and their key areas of focus, defines the technical architecture of the utility tunnel smart operation and maintenance management platform (OMMP), and improves the sustainable evaluation system for utility tunnel operation and maintenance. It provides guidance for smart operation and maintenance of utility tunnels and sustainable urban development in terms of practicality, safety, energy efficiency, technological advancement, and economic rationality.
