This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Through 75 years of trials and hardships and 75 years of momentous times, New China under the leadership of the Communist Party of China has gone from being poor and blank to achieving moderate prosperity in all respects, creating miracles of rapid economic development and long-term social stability rarely seen in the world. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has united and led the people of all ethnic groups across the country in continuous struggle and forging ahead, successfully advancing and expanding Chinese-style modernization. The Chinese nation has achieved a great leap from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered an irreversible historical process. Xinwen Lianbo today launches a series of reports, "Striving on the Road to a Strong Nation, Striding into a New Journey," beginning with "China's Economy Successfully Enters a New Stage of Modernization."

In autumn, China presents a scene of boundless vitality.

From south to north, a thousand sails race across the azure sea, and the bountiful blue granary makes China's rice bowl more plentiful; from west to east, wind power, photovoltaic power, and hydropower are transmitted in milliseconds, and for every 3 kilowatt-hours of electricity consumed by society as a whole, 1 kilowatt-hour is green electricity.

Every day, an average of more than 4 million smartphones are produced across the country, and more than 80,000 automobiles roll off production lines into people's lives. Not long ago, the total number of consumer goods categories in China exceeded 200 million, ranking first in the world. Yet at the founding of New China, even daily necessities such as matches and iron nails had to be imported from abroad.

Li Hongsheng, a resident of Caochang Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing: Matches and nails were all imported, and everything had a foreign prefix. Now you can buy anything.

Looking at the country's First Five-Year Plan, daily necessities such as matches and rubber shoes, together with steel and ships, were listed among the most urgent categories of industrial production. Now, China is the only country in the world that possesses all the industrial categories in the United Nations industrial classification, and the output of more than 220 kinds of industrial products ranks first in the world. In just a few decades, we have completed the industrialization process that took Western developed countries several hundred years.

In today's China, innovation is becoming the primary driving force for economic growth. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, national R&D spending has increased 2.2-fold, R&D intensity has reached the level of developed countries, and the level of self-reliance and strength in science and technology has improved significantly. China has achieved the world's first sample return from the far side of the moon, and the China Space Station has entered routine operation. Independently developed major national equipment such as domestically produced large aircraft and domestically produced cruise ships have successively come into being, and a series of achievements have been made in frontier fields such as quantum information and nuclear power technology. High-tech industries represented by the new generation of information technology, high-end equipment, and aerospace are constantly growing and expanding.

In today's China, a modern industrial system is taking shape at an accelerated pace, and the economic structure is continuously being optimized.

On busy production lines, the assembly-line mode of production is undergoing disruptive change. A numerical control rate of nearly 63% in key processes enables flexible customization for everything from large engineering machinery to a single piece of clothing. Over the past decade, China's overall labor productivity has roughly doubled, and more than 40% of the world's lighthouse factories, representing the highest global level of intelligent manufacturing, are located in China. The industrial internet has been integrated into 49 major categories of the national economy, and the digital economy and the real economy are accelerating their integration.

China has built the world's largest and most complete clean energy industrial chain, and installed renewable energy capacity exceeds installed coal power capacity; the production and sales of new energy vehicles account for more than 60% of the global total, ranking first in the world for nine consecutive years.

The "three new" economy represented by new industries, new forms of business, and new business models is thriving, quietly changing the statistical scope of macroeconomic measurement. In the new momentum index recently released by the National Bureau of Statistics, three major indices—the innovation-driven index, the internet economy index, and the transformation and upgrading index—all show double-digit growth.

Wei Ying, deputy director of the Big Data Development Department of the Information Center of the National Development and Reform Commission: The emergence and rapid growth of these new indicators show that, with the in-depth implementation of China's innovation-driven development strategy, the new momentum of China's economy is currently gathering strength at an accelerated pace and has become the main driving force for high-quality development.

Looking back over the 75-year journey, the Chinese economy has written a great legend from its starting point to its takeoff.

China's gross domestic product grew from 67.9 billion yuan in 1952, when statistics began, to 126 trillion yuan in 2023, with an average annual growth rate of 7.9%.

China's industrial development has advanced by leaps and bounds, with the scale of manufacturing ranking first in the world for 14 consecutive years, the share of the service sector accounting for half of the national economy, and China becoming the world's second-largest consumer country and largest online retail market.

China's share of the world economy grew from 1.7% in 1978, when statistics began, to about 17% in 2023, and its contribution to the world economy exceeds 30%.
