Kunming, September 9 (Report) — The 2024 China Industrial Transfer and Development Matchmaking Event (Yunnan) was held in Kunming from the 7th to the 8th. To date, the event has seen the signing of 903 industrial transfer projects, with the total value of signed projects expected to exceed 330 billion yuan. By undertaking industrial transfers, Yunnan will work with the enterprises that locate there to jointly build a new highland for international cooperation.
Industrial transfer is an urgent necessity for optimizing the spatial layout of productive forces, safeguarding the security and stability of industrial and supply chains, and accelerating the construction of a new development pattern. The 2024 China Industrial Transfer and Development Matchmaking Event (Yunnan), themed "Sharing New Advantages in Industrial Transfer, Jointly Building a New Highland for International Cooperation," carried out city and prefecture promotions, field visits, and project signings centered on biomedicine, photovoltaics, the information industry and South Asia-Southeast Asia digital cooperation, and border industrial parks.
As a major province undertaking the phased transfer of industry, Yunnan signed 382 projects in 2023, with total investment in started projects reaching 142.1 billion yuan. This year more than 1,300 key enterprises participated, a larger scale than before. At this event, international cooperation, border opening-up, ASEAN, and the international market became high-frequency terms.

Zhang Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that he hopes Yunnan will deepen opening-up and cooperation, using national high-tech zones and border industrial parks as links to actively build a cross-border industrial and supply chain system, tap ASEAN consumer potential, build import and export manufacturing bases oriented toward ASEAN, and realize "Made in China + international market." At the same time, it should actively attract ASEAN enterprises to settle in industrial parks and create a highland for border opening-up.
Yunnan is located on the southwestern border of China, bordering Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. It is backed by a strong domestic market of 1.4 billion people and connects to the vast international market of South Asia and Southeast Asia with 2.4 billion people. The "golden route" effect of the China-Laos Railway continues to grow, and the "Shanghai-Yunnan · Lancang-Mekong Line" and "Guangdong-Yunnan · Lancang-Mekong Line" have greatly shortened transport times. There are 28 ports, and more than 10,000 enterprises from various provinces, regions, and municipalities import and export goods through Yunnan's ports.
"From January to July this year, Honghe Prefecture's imports and exports reached 11.64 billion yuan, ranking fourth in the province. Of this, imports and exports with Vietnam totaled 7.59 billion yuan, up 86.9%, accounting for 62.3% of total Yunnan-Vietnam trade," said Zhao Ruijun, Secretary of the Honghe Prefecture Party Committee of Yunnan Province. "The release of the China-Vietnam Joint Statement has brought us a major historical opportunity."

To this end, Honghe Prefecture, following a "port-hinterland integration" layout, is working with China Energy Engineering Corporation and Shanghai's Xuhui District and Changning District to advance the construction of a 38-square-kilometer border industrial park under a "one park, three zones" arrangement. Among these, the Hekou Border Industrial Park, targeting the characteristics of Vietnam's electronics manufacturing, garment and footwear production, and coffee exports, focuses on developing three leading industries—consumer electronics and components, light textile processing, and processing of ASEAN specialty goods—and is building a raw material supply and production base for China oriented toward Vietnam and even ASEAN.
In addition, the China-Laos Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone, located on the China-Laos border, is building standardized industrial workshops and industrial R&D centers around the digital economy, developing diversified industries such as garment processing, toys, and small household appliances, and actively attracting investment.
Ruili City in Dehong Prefecture, the largest port city on the China-Myanmar border, relies on advantages such as its port and labor resources to focus on building four leading industrial clusters: textiles and garments, communications and electronics, equipment manufacturing, and on-site processing of imported goods. From January to May 2024, the Ruili Border Industrial Park achieved operating revenue of 1.182 billion yuan, gradually becoming a new engine driving the development of Yunnan's port economy.
"This is my first time in Yunnan. I came to this event mainly to recommend the laboratory's new integrated circuit materials to enterprises," said Cheng Zhao, an associate researcher at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He noted that Yunnan is a kingdom of nonferrous metals, and its outstanding resource advantages attract many enterprises to set up operations in Yunnan and further extend their reach to ASEAN countries. He hopes that through this presentation, domestically produced materials can go abroad and reach the world.
