At around 5:20 on September 9, intense rainfall in Caluo Township, Shimian County, Sichuan Province triggered a debris flow. About 2 km downstream, at the 2082 km point of the Yaxi section of the G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway, a large volume of debris flowed onto the roadway, causing two-way traffic to be suspended because conditions were not safe for passage (no vehicles or people were found trapped at the scene).
Following active emergency clearance work by personnel from the relevant expressway units, as of 4:30 on September 10, emergency response at the debris-flow-affected section (in the Xichang-to-Chengdu direction) at the 2082 km point of the Yaxi section of the G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway was completed and conditions were safe for passage. Traffic has now resumed, and traffic control at the Liziping Interchange, Yihai Security Checkpoint, and Lugu Interchange has been lifted in stages.
