On the 2nd, reporters learned from the official authorities of Golmud City, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province that the main construction of the world's ultra-high-altitude pumped storage project — the Qinghai Golmud Nanshankou Pumped Storage Power Station — has officially commenced.

　　The Qinghai Golmud Nanshankou Pumped Storage Power Station project is currently the largest-capacity and largest-regulation-reservoir pumped storage project under construction in the world at an altitude above 3,500 meters, and it is also the first pumped storage project in Qinghai Province approved for construction in a desert-gobi-wasteland area. The project is designed to install 8 vertical-shaft single-stage single-speed mixed-flow reversible pumped storage units, each with a capacity of 300,000 kilowatts, for a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts.

　　According to the introduction, the main works of the Qinghai Golmud Nanshankou Pumped Storage Power Station mainly include the water conveyance system and the underground powerhouse works. The completion of the project will effectively promote the structural optimization of Qinghai's energy mix and the consumption of new energy, and is of great significance for building a clean, low-carbon, economically efficient, flexible and intelligent new-type power system.
