On September 1, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met in Beijing with Senegalese Foreign Minister Yacine Fall, who was in China to attend the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Wang Yi said, China and Senegal enjoy a long-standing traditional friendship, and the two countries have a high level of mutual trust and extensive common interests. As important forces of the Global South, China and Senegal have always upheld independence and self-reliance, walked hand in hand on the path to modernization, supported each other on major issues, and firmly safeguarded the common interests of developing countries. China is ready to work with Senegal to advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries in keeping with the times and achieve more new outcomes.

Wang Yi noted that FOCAC has become a shining banner of China-Africa solidarity and an important platform for South-South cooperation. It has not only effectively promoted China-Africa relations, but also provided important impetus for Africa's own development. China appreciates Senegal's extensive and fruitful work as co-chair of FOCAC for this summit, and is ready to work closely with Senegal to make this FOCAC Summit another grand gathering that strengthens China-Africa solidarity and friendship and sets off a new upsurge of China-Africa cooperation. The world cannot be one where "the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor." China firmly supports African countries in defending their legitimate right to development and revitalization, and is ready to work with them to build an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

Fall said that the Senegal-China relationship is exemplary. The two countries have always respected each other and jointly promoted international peace and development. Senegal speaks highly of the important contribution FOCAC has made to accelerating Africa's development and realizing economic transformation, and will continue to work closely with China to ensure the full success of this summit. During the summit, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will pay a state visit to China, his first visit to a country outside Africa. Senegal looks forward to using this opportunity to deepen the dynamic comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Senegal and China. Fall thanked China for its valuable support for Senegal's economic and social development, and said Senegal firmly adheres to the one-China principle and hopes to strengthen exchanges of governance experience with China and continue to receive China's support in such areas as transportation, energy, infrastructure, and health and education, to help Senegal achieve industrialization and food self-sufficiency.

Fall said that the Belt and Road Initiative and a series of global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping demonstrate that China truly practices multilateralism and supports sustainable development. Senegal attaches great importance to them and is willing to actively participate in them and jointly commit to the cause of human progress.
