On April 2, the Liming Extra-Long Tunnel, a key control project of the Yunnan Menglian–Menghai Expressway, achieved double-tube breakthrough, laying a solid foundation for the project to be completed on schedule.

According to reports, the Meng(lian)–Meng(hai) Expressway has a total of 43 tunnels. The Liming Tunnel that broke through this time is a separated tunnel, with the left tube 5,348 meters long and the right tube 5,355 meters long, totaling nearly 11 kilometers for both tubes, making it the longest tunnel on the project. During construction, the project faced numerous technical challenges and complex geological conditions. The contractor promptly adjusted excavation methods according to different tunnel locations and changing geological conditions, adopted new equipment, new processes and new methods, and achieved “mechanization to reduce manpower and automation to replace personnel,” greatly improving the safety and efficiency of tunnel construction and ensuring the safe breakthrough of the Liming Extra-Long Tunnel.

The Meng–Meng Expressway is a major section of Yunnan Province's border expressway. Overall, 41% of the project has been completed. Once built, the project will be of great significance for improving the national and Yunnan provincial expressway network structure, advancing the overall layout for developing the green and beautiful corridor economy industry, accelerating the integrated development of the “transport + comprehensive development” industry, promoting the coordinated development of the corridor economy and road-derived economy through transport–tourism integration, and boosting border prosperity and people's wellbeing.
