The Government Work Report pointed out that last year China strengthened the renovation of old urban residential communities and the supply of government-subsidized housing, benefiting tens of millions of families.
At the press conference on livelihood issues held on the afternoon of March 9 during the Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress, Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong introduced: "In 2023, renovation of 53,000 old urban residential communities was newly launched, benefiting more than 22 million residents..."
We clearly remember that a year ago, when answering questions from reporters at the 2023 National Two Sessions "Ministers' Corridor," Minister Ni Hong made a solemn commitment to the people of the whole country—"In 2023, we hope to launch the renovation of more than 50,000 old residential communities, striving to benefit 20 million residents."
The comparison of data gives this commitment a resounding weight. Over the past year, China has overfulfilled its task of renovating old urban residential communities! A commitment means a responsibility and a sense of duty. Behind the commitment lies even more a sense of responsibility and duty.
Over the past year, in implementing the renovation of old urban residential communities, housing and urban-rural development departments fulfilled their duties, firmly grasping "secure housing" as the cornerstone of the people's happiness, and made precise, coordinated, and sustained efforts. Adhering to a problem-oriented approach, they identified shortcomings and strengthened weak links, and upheld equal emphasis on renovation and upgrading, comprehensively advancing this work with pragmatic measures and solid actions. They improved residents' living conditions and living environment, enhanced residents' sense of gain, happiness, and security, perfectly demonstrating the responsibility and sentiment of housing and urban-rural development departments in upholding the people-first principle, and fully manifesting their mission and duty to respond to the people's new expectations.
There is no end to the improvement of people's livelihood—only ever-new starting points. At this press conference on livelihood issues, Minister Ni Hong once again made a commitment—to renovate another 50,000 old urban residential communities in 2024. We have reason to believe that, with the foundation and experience of the past, and through the efforts of the entire system, this goal will surely be achieved in the course of steadily advancing urban renewal.
