On January 9, the Xifeng Tunnel on the Jiangxi Suichuan–Dayu Expressway successfully achieved two-way breakthrough. The Xifeng Tunnel is located in Chongyi County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The tunnel has a left tube length of 1,556 meters and a right tube length of 1,514 meters, and is a key controlling node project for the entire line.
The main works of the Xifeng Tunnel pass through loose surrounding rock with fractured rock mass, and the geology is characterized by developed joints and fissures. Construction also takes place within the Yangmingshan National Forest Park area in Chongyi County and passes beneath major traffic roads of two counties under complex conditions, resulting in a relatively high overall construction risk coefficient and a harsh in-tunnel construction environment. The construction contractor overcame the unfavorable conditions by adopting the "zero-excavation" tunnel portal concept, thereby reducing damage to and excavation of natural vegetation and mountain bodies.
The Suichuan–Dayu Expressway project connects Suichuan County, Ji'an, and Dayu County, Ganzhou, in Jiangxi Province. It is an important section of the 9th vertical line in Jiangxi Province's expressway plan of "10 vertical, 10 horizontal, and 21 connecting lines," and the entire line is expected to be completed in October 2025. Once the project is completed, it will open up a major expressway corridor in southwestern Jiangxi and is of great significance in boosting the high-quality development of the old revolutionary base areas and connecting with the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
