On January 8, the Shiwuzhang No. 2 Tunnel on the RMSG-1 section of the Ruijin–Meizhou Railway (Guangdong section), constructed by China Railway 24th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., was successfully holed through. It is reported that this is the first tunnel to be holed through along the entire Ruijin–Meizhou Railway, marking a new stage in the railway's construction.

The Shiwuzhang No. 2 Tunnel is located in Hetou Town, Pingyuan County. It is a single-track tunnel with a total length of 222 meters and a maximum burial depth of about 41.2 meters. Because the tunnel's geological environment is complex, with weak and fractured surrounding rock, water-rich conditions and poor stability, and because the tunnel passes beneath a shallow-buried section, construction safety risks are high; the project contractor therefore adopted modern technical means for excavation. Since excavation began, the contractor has strengthened safety management, strictly controlled project quality, rigorously organized the construction sequence, and overcome adverse factors to ensure the tunnel was holed through on schedule, laying a solid foundation for the early completion and opening of the Ruijin–Meizhou Railway.

It is understood that the Ruijin–Meizhou Railway has a total length of about 240 kilometers and a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour, of which about 75 kilometers lie within Guangdong Province. Construction began on September 30, 2022, with a planned construction period of 4.5 years and a planned completion and opening in 2027. The line starts in Ruijin City, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, passes through Huichang County and Anyuan County to Xunwu County, then crosses the Jiangxi–Guangdong provincial border into Guangdong Province, runs through Pingyuan County to Meixian District and Meijiang District in Meizhou City, and then connects to the existing Meizhou Station. Seven stations are provided along the route: Ruijin, Huichang, Tianxin, Anyuan, Xunwu, Pingyuan and Meizhou.
