The year 2024 has arrived. In the past 2023, a series of major progress was made in national railway planning and construction. The preliminary design and construction drawing design of a batch of key railway projects under the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" network were successively approved, and these projects entered the bidding stage one after another and achieved the goal of full-scale commencement; a batch of projects planned to start construction during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period are accelerating feasibility study review and approval; a batch of key railway projects were successively completed and put into operation; and some route alignments and station settings have undergone new changes.

The details of this update are as follows (data since the end of August):

I. Route status updates

1. Newly opened: Guangzhou Baiyun Station;

High-speed (fast) railways with a speed of 200 km/h and above: Guangzhou-Shanwei, Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou, Shanghai-Nanjing along the Yangtze River, Sichuan-Qinghai (Chengdu-Zhenjiang section), Jinan-Zhengzhou (Jinan-Puyang section), Laiyang-Rongcheng, Tianjin-Daxing, Shantou-Shanwei, Chengdu-Yibin, Longyan-Wuping, Nanchang-Jingdezhen-Huangshan, and Fangchenggang-Dongxing railways;

Conventional-speed railways: Lijiang-Shangri-La, Xuyong-Bijie, and Ningbo-Jinhua railways; electrification of the Jinghe-Alashankou section of the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Second Line and the Zhengxiang section of the Taizicheng-Xilinhot railway, etc.

2. Newly commenced (including those already under construction bidding):

Yan'an-Yulin, Jinan-Zaozhuang, Shaoyang-Yongzhou, the Pearl River Delta Airport to provincial boundary section of the Nanning-Shenzhen high-speed railway, Weifang-Suqian and the Qingdao connecting line, Hefei-Wuhan, and Zhangzhou-Shantou high-speed railways;

Pingliang-Qingyang, Wenshan-Mengzi, Huangtong-Baise, Lop Nur-Ruoqiang railway, the connecting line from Guangzhou Station to Guangzhou South Station, and the Shanghai-Kunming outer bypass line of the Jinhua hub, etc.; the second phase of the Quzhou-Lishui railway has commenced construction across the entire line.

3. Projects entering the track-laying and static acceptance stage: Chizhou-Huangshan high-speed railway, Weifang-Yantai high-speed railway, the Henan section of the Rizhao-Lankao high-speed railway, the Tieli-Yichun section of the Harbin-Yichun high-speed railway, the Chongqing-Yibin section of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway, the second phase of the Zhuhai Airport intercity railway, and the second phase of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway.

4. Projects adjusted to commence in the near term (before the end of 2024): the Nanchong-Guangan intercity railway, whose feasibility study review has been completed; and the Yulin-Ordos-Baotou high-speed railway.

5. Projects adjusted to be implemented in the medium term (before the end of 2026): the Xiantao-Honghu-Jianli railway, with the construction schedule to be determined; and the Rizhao-Wulian high-speed railway.

6. Newly added projects:

Planning and research projects: the Luoyang-Shiyan-Chongqing (Wanzhou) railway; the Shangqiu-Zhoukou-Zhumadian intercity railway; the Jinhua-Nanping railway; the second channel of the Qinhuangdao-Shenyang high-speed railway; the Fuxin-Panjin railway; and the Suizhou-Tianmen-Qianjiang-Yueyang railway;

Pre-feasibility study projects: the Chizhou-Xuancheng section of the Suzhou-Wangjiang-Xuancheng railway; and the newly built Zhaotong-Kunming (Dongchuan) railway;

Feasibility study projects: the second track addition to the Xinjiang Jiangjunmiao-Naomaohu railway, the Wutongshui-Naomaohu railway, the Zhundong-Karamay railway, and the old Sandaoiling-Naomaohu-Yandun railway; the Inner Mongolia Zhurihe-Xianghuangqi-Huade railway;

Railway industrial sidings: Ningbo Meishan Port, Ningde Zhangwan Port, Zhanjiang Wushi Port, Yibin port-access railway, etc.

II. Route alignment updates

1. According to the **revised feasibility study scheme for the Yichang-Changde high-speed railway, the local alignment of the route has been adjusted: in the near term the line will be led out from Changyang East Station, and in the long term a new third and fourth track will be built from Jingmen to Changyang; the Zhangjiajie-Shimen (Lixian) high-speed railway has been adjusted accordingly;

2. The **feasibility study scheme for the Jiaozuo-Luoyang-Pingdingshan section of the Hohhot-Nanning high-speed railway: six new stations will be built along the entire line—Qinyang West, Jiyuan East, Luoyang North, Yichuan West, Ruyang East, and Ruzhou South—and one station, Luoyang Longmen, will be reconstructed;

3. The Yichang-Chongqing high-speed railway adopts the scheme of sharing the existing station at Lichuan; in the near term the line will be built to Changshou North Station, and the section from Changshou North to Chongqing North will be incorporated into the medium- and long-term plan;

4. The alignment of the planned Changsha-Nanchang (Jiujiang) high-speed railway is temporarily adjusted according to the Jiangxi provincial planning study scheme via Tonggu and Yifeng.
