On the afternoon of November 7, the cantilever-cast box girder of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge South Approach crossing the Desheng River was successfully closed, marking the full completion of the bridge's south approach project.
As the last batch of concrete was poured into the formwork, the 125-meter cantilever-cast box girder of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge South Approach crossing the Desheng River in Changzhou was successfully closed. This is the largest single structure in the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge South Approach project and a key controlling works of the south approach.
Wei Shifeng, deputy project manager of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge project of CCCC First Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., said that the closure signifies the completion of the entire main works of the south approach. The focus will now shift fully to bridge deck system construction, mainly deck paving and deck guardrail installation, with the Changtai Bridge south approach to be fully completed before the end of the year.
The Changtai Yangtze River Bridge and its north and south highway approach projects are key projects in Jiangsu's "15 radial, 6 longitudinal and 10 transverse" expressway network, and are also major projects for Changzhou to accelerate its eastward integration and westward expansion, southward connection and northward linkage, and to build itself into a transportation axis hub city in the Yangtze River Delta.
Gu Jiangming, deputy director of the Office of the Changzhou Expressway Construction Command, told reporters that the Changzhou section of the north and south approach projects of the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge is a major expressway corridor in the construction of Changzhou's transportation axis. In particular, it is of great significance for the people of Changzhou, who have long hoped that Changzhou and Taizhou could be connected by a Yangtze River bridge, to open up links between the two banks.
