October 29 (Reported) — The 14th National Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering opened on the 28th in Wuhan. The conference is hosted by the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, and organized by the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

Zhang Jianmin, Chairman of the Conference Academic Committee, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Honorary Chairman of the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, said in his address that the National Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, held once every four years, is the academic conference with the longest history and the most far-reaching influence in China's geotechnical engineering field. With the theme of "Green, Intelligent, and Resilient," this conference will exchange and discuss the latest achievements and development trends in China's soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering fields, explore the path of green, low-carbon, and resilient high-quality development of the geotechnical engineering industry, and will play a positive role in leading disciplinary development and promoting industry progress.

Shang Chunming, Vice Chairman of the China Civil Engineering Society, introduced that the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch is one of the society organizations with the longest historical tradition and the broadest influence in national geotechnical engineering, and bears the mission of accelerating national geotechnical engineering construction and promoting the scientific and technological progress and prosperity of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. This time, scientific and technological workers from related fields such as civil engineering, water conservancy, transportation, municipal engineering, ocean engineering, and disaster prevention have gathered in Wuhan to jointly exchange and discuss the theory and practice, new technologies, and new methods of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, with the expectation of sparking innovation.

Xue Qiang, Director of the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced that, upon discussion and recommendation by the Standing Council of the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, 17 conference reports were determined; 20 sub-venues were set up, involving 565 academic reports, including 226 invited reports at sub-venues and 339 special reports. The conference will also hold a series of featured forums and activities, including the Academicians' High-end Forum, the Geotechnical Engineering International Forum, the Mao Yisheng Award Forum, the Geotechnical Engineering Frontier Interdisciplinary Forum, the Energy Geotechnical Engineering Forum, the Marine Geotechnical Engineering Forum, the Deep Geotechnical Engineering Forum, the Geotechnical Engineering Graduate Student Forum, the Soil Mechanics Teaching Seminar, geotechnical engineering new technology exchange and software seminars, as well as the National College Student Geotechnical Engineering Innovation Activity, the Geotechnical Engineering Journal Salon, and the Geotechnical Engineering Industrial Exhibition.

It is reported that from the afternoon of October 28 to the morning of October 30, the main venue and 20 sub-venues will simultaneously organize special academic reports and exchanges; on the 29th, the Geotechnical Engineering College Student Innovation Activity will be held; and on the afternoon of the 30th, four keynote reports and the closing ceremony will be held.
