On September 7, good news came from the Qinghai section of the Xicheng Railway, which is under construction: the Xinzhuang No. 3 Tunnel and the Xiyingba Tunnel on the Xicheng Railway were successfully holed through on the same day, pressing the "fast-forward button" for the project construction.
The Xining–Huangshengguan section of the Xicheng Railway has a total length of 498.9 kilometers. It is a rapid corridor in China's medium- and long-term planned "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network and a major transportation infrastructure project for interconnection and mutual access among the Tibetan-inhabited areas of Sichuan, Gansu, and Qinghai provinces.
It is reported that the two tunnels holed through this time are located within the jurisdiction of Section 13 of the Xicheng Railway. The Xinzhuang No. 3 Tunnel has a total length of 455 meters, and the Xiyingba Tunnel has a total length of 270 meters; both are single-tube double-track tunnels. The tunnels are located in a severely collapsible loess area with complex geological conditions.

"We have actively carried out the innovative application of multiple processes and tooling, such as the 'V-shaped joint tooling reserved for the secondary lining trolley,' the 'positioning tooling for blind pipes at the low side wall,' and the 'protection tooling for the invert connecting steel plate,' which has greatly improved construction efficiency while reducing the occurrence of safety and quality problems," introduced the project leader of China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group.
It is reported that the project department has also innovatively applied an intelligent secondary lining trolley equipped with systems such as a visualization system, visualized end formwork, automatic material distribution, and grouting with formwork in place, ensuring the construction quality of the lining concrete.
Along Section 13 of the Xicheng Railway, rivers crisscross, ditches are densely distributed, and the population is concentrated, placing high requirements on ecological and environmental protection during construction. The project promotes the innovation and application of green construction technologies, adopting centralized storage of stripped topsoil to achieve zero soil and water loss, using a sewage treatment system to achieve zero sewage discharge, and carrying out simultaneous construction of main and auxiliary works to achieve zero interval in greening works. This not only improves the level of green construction of the tunnels but also effectively protects the fragile local ecological environment.
