Application of PHC Pipe Piles in the Approach Bridge Project of a High-Pile Wharf
The approach bridge project of a high-pile wharf is generally located on a river floodplain and has dry-land construction conditions. Bored cast-in-place piles are often used for the pile foundations of approach bridges, but this pile type has a long construction duration, is difficult to control in terms of construction quality, and has poor environmental performance. Based on an engineering case, this paper introduces the application of PHC pipe piles in the approach bridge project of a high-pile wharf, and briefly presents the construction methods and key points for attention of PHC pipe piles. According to the case, the construction efficiency of the two pile types, PHC pipe piles and bored cast-in-place piles, is compared. PHC pipe piles have the advantages of low cost, good environmental performance, fast construction speed, and short construction period, and their application in the approach bridge project of a high-pile wharf can bring good economic and environmental benefits.
